The New Land Allotment Policy, piloted by the Revenue department to ensure rational allotment of land and its proper utilisation within the prescribed time frame was finally approved by the State Cabinet here on Friday.
Touted as the major policy initiative to check misuse of land, a precious resource, its thrust is to allot land sought for various purposes only after proper assessment of the requirement.
The AP Land Management Authority with Chief Commissioner of Land Authority as the Chairman will scrutinise all the proposals sent by various departments and approve them. If necessary the Apex authority will hire the services of experts to determine the quantum of land required for a particular industry or institution.
Another significant decision is to allot the land with terms and conditions and resume it if not utilised within the stipulated period, normally three years.
It may be recalled that the decision to review the land policy was taken by the Chief Minister N.Kiran Kumar Reddy after the issue of large scale misuse of thousands of acres allotted to private parties for setting up industries had rocked the Assembly and Council. About one lakh acres of allotted land in the last two decades was lying with private parties for the last two decades in the State. Under this policy, it could be resumed, an official said.
The cabinet also approved land allotment to eight applicants in Karimnagar and Ranga Reddy districts including 100 acres to National Institute of Animal Biotechnology, a premier institute under the Department of Science and Technology. It would come up within the campus of Central University.
