Within a few hours of the kidnap of Yashwanth, the son of Mallikarjuna Rao, a Bill Collector in the Kadapa Municipal Corporation, while he was playing in Kadapa Municipal Grounds in front of his house on Tuesday, police traced him near Rayachoti, Kadapa Superintendent of Police Navin Gulati told newsmen on Tuesday evening.
Following a complaint by the boy’s parents Mallikarjuna Rao and Srivani, four police teams were formed and intensive vehicle checking was undertaken, the SP said. Dr. Gulati handed over the boy, who was in a state of shock, to his parents. The SP said police secured vital leads in the investigation and would nab the culprits.
Yashwanth, studying LKG in Vijaya Aarthi School , his sister Praneetha and some other children were playing since 7 a.m. As he did not return at 9 a.m., his parents lodged a complaint with the Kadapa II Town police. Children play regularly at the place, the boy’s grandmother Lakshmamma said. After police rushed to the place, a person rang up the mobile of Pullaiah, a driver of Datta Sai Peetham’s Vaikuntha Vahanam, and told him that his neighbour’s son was being taken on Rajampet-Chennai National Highway. As soon as Pullaiah gave the mobile to the police, the call was disconnected.
A boy playing with Yashwanth told police that four persons took the boy in a blue coloured van. Soon after the kidnap, police launched intensive vehicle checking, sent the boy’s photograph and description to all the police stations in Kadapa district and sounded an alert, Kadapa DSP E.G. Ashok Kumar told newsmen.
Kadapa II Town Circle Inspector U. Sadasivaiah and SIs Narasimha Rao and Arun Reddy inspected the place of kidnap and enquired about the incident.
