The Pradesh Congress Committee president Botcha Satyanarayana on Monday night met Panchayat Raj Minister K.Jana Reddy and former CWC member K. Keshava Rao to gauge the mood of the Telangana Congress MPs, who are planning to join the TRS.
The PCC chief, who returned to the city today, drove to the residence of Mr. Jana Reddy where Dr. Keshava Rao also joined them.
He reportedly tried to get a feedback about the developments in wake of TRS chief K. Chandrasekhara Rao giving an open invitation to the MPs and MLAs to join his party.
Demands statement
Sources said Dr. Keshava Rao lamented that the high command had gone back on its promise to concede Telangana.
He sought to know from the PCC chief whether the high command would come out with some statement in the next 10 days.
“Let them tell some particular date to decide the fate of Telangana. Or else, we will wait for one week and take harsh decision,” he told Mr. Satyanarayana.
The PCC, according to sources, tried to convince him that he would take up their cause during his Delhi visit to meet AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi on April 18.
The PCC chief agreed that the statehood issue was sensitive and that the leaders from the region were facing hardships due to indecision. Speaking to reporters later, Mr Satyanarayana said that he had come to know the facts about the TRS chief’s offer. “I am confident that none of our MPs would defect to TRS,” he said.
Aggressive
Dr. Keshava Rao on the other hand was aggressive when he told reporters that he would not listen to any body.
“What is wrong if I meet any other political party leaders? Nobody can convince me till Telangana is conceded. I strongly condemn rumours that I am keen on contesting the next elections from Zaheerabad or Malkajgiri,” he said.
