Nothing wrong with telemeter at Pothyreddipadu to measure water drawn

The Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) has absolved Andhra Pradesh of the charges made by Telangana by categorically stating that there is nothing wrong with the telemeter at Pothyreddipadu.

The board met in Hyderabad on Saturday and took a few decisions after a marathon four-hour session.

KRMB Chairman S.K. Srivastava said there was nothing wrong with the telemeter measuring the water being drawn by the Pothyreddipadu head regulator.

The Telangana Water Resources Department accused Andhra Pradesh of “tampering” with the telemeter and even pilfering water from the Srisailam Project through the Pothyreddipadu head regulator.

In the latest instance, Telangana complained to the Board that the water losses being shown by Andhra Pradesh were far above the mark. The issue of water loss was discussed in detail and the board decided that a separate sub-committee would be constituted to quantify it at various points. Along with the KRMB members, the sub-committee would also have representatives from both States, Mr. Srivastava said.

New member-secretary E Pramesam, secretaries Shashi Bhusan Kumar (A.P.) and S.K. Joshi (Telangana) and Engineers-in-Chief M. Venkateswara Rao (A.P.) and Muralidhar (Telangana) attended the meeting.

The board decided to allocate the 330 tmcft available in Srisailam and Nagarjuna Sagar on the basis of 66% for A.P. and 34% for Telangana. Andhra Pradesh would get around 215 tmcft and Telangana 115 tmcft.

Mr. Srivastava said Telangana had raised a few objections to the Working Manual of the KRMB. He said the second phase of telemeter installation would begin very soon.
