Senior BJP leader M. Venkaiah Naidu said the party would scrap Article 370 of the Constitution under which Jammu & Kashmir is enjoying autonomy, ban religious conversions and cow slaughter and bring back the Uniform Civil Code if the party comes to power.

The ‘Gujarat model’ of development won global acclaim under the stewardship of Narendra Modi while the country has been pushed to brink of a disaster due to the inefficiency of UPA-II.

The performance of National Democratic Alliance (NDA) could be compared with that of the Congress-led dispensation. The mood is clearly in favour of the BJP which has given stable and good governance under the able leadership of A.B. Vajpayee, he asserted.

Addressing the party’s ‘Praja Chaitanya Sadassu’ here on Monday, Mr. Venkaiah Naidu said India’s clout in the world is waning due to the foreign policies of UPA-II.

Even small countries like Sri Lanka, Bangladesh are not giving much weight to their bigger neighbour.

Terrorists are able to strike at will as the Government failed to curb the menace. The BJP would firmly deal with cross-border terrorism and repatriate illegal immigrants who are posing a serious problem.

Economic growth rate has tumbled to about four per cent. Corruption has penetrated every field and the agricultural sector is incurring huge losses. Women are being raped and abused at an alarming rate. There is practically no area in which the UPA-II has not failed.

The BJP is drawing flak from the pseudo-secularists for harping on Ram (temple) issue. It is for the people to decide whether they want Ram or scam(s) for which the UPA-II has gained notoriety over the years.

Inflation and unemployment are major problems faced by the people. Farmers are continuing to commit suicide as agriculture has ceased to be a profitable activity.

Mr. Venkaiah Naidu pointed out that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had strongly opposed FDI in retail when he was in the Opposition but changed his stand later under pressure from the corporate lobby.

The UPA-II had vowed to bring back nearly Rs 25 lakh crore of black money hidden in tax havens, in 100 days but it could do nothing as it lacked the courage for that.

The CBI, Directorate of Revenue Intelligence and Income Tax Department are being used to harass political rivals.

Whatever is done by UPA, it is as per the whims and fancies of Sonia Gandhi. It is like the `Prime Minister presides, Madam decides’.
