Be thorough with SC/ST laws, police personnel told

District Judge Kanaka Durga Rao and Superintendent of Police Ghattamaneni Srinivas on Monday advised the police personnel to be thorough with the legal and investigative aspects of the cases related to atrocities on the SC/ST communities.

The officials inaugurated a one-day Capacity Building Workshop on Prevention of Atrocities against SC/ST communities at the New District Police Office in the town.

Addressing senior police officials from all over the Chittoor police district, the SP said that by keeping themselves constantly updated about the laws dealing with atrocities against Dalits and Girijans, the cops could improve their efficiency while investigating the cases.

Workshops on current issues and the efficacy of legal aspects for police personnel would go a long way in enhancing the quality of investigation and prevention of atrocities against the weaker sections, he added.

Welcome sign

The police officerobserved that it was a welcome sign to organise workshops by arranging guest lectures with experienced police officers and senior members of the judiciary and intellectuals from various universities.

Senior officials of various government departments and leaders of SC/ST welfare associations were present.
