The common complaint by leaders of Kapu, Ontari, Balija and Telaga associations at the ‘ Medho Madana sadassu’ , which was attended by Rural Development Minister K. Mrunalini, Kapu Corporation Chairman Chalamalasetty Ramanujaya and TDP MLAs and MLCs, was that bankers had not been sanctioning loans adequately for the units sanctioned under the economic assistance scheme.
While TDP town committee president V.S. Prasad suggested that the district administration pressurise bankers to sanction adequate amount of loan for the units sanctioned, Chalamala Prasad, a Kapu leader, demanded that the government adopt a resolution on reservations for Kapus in the State Assembly. Gajapathinagaram MLA K.A. Naidu assured the gathering that the government would appoint a retired judge to settle the quota issue.
Ms. Mrunalini informed the gathering that following deliberations, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu had agreed to sanction scholarships for education beyond SSC, offer skill development training and also coaching for UPSC examinations at study circles outside the State, loan up to Rs.10 lakhs for study abroad, and construct community centres with lodging facility in districts. Mr Ramanujaya said that the meetings were being conducted in each district to elicit opinion of Kapu leaders on how to uplift them economically.
