Dharnas, ‘rasta rokos’ and protest demonstrations were the order of the day
MAHABUBNAGAR: Dharnas, ‘rasta rokos’ and other protest demonstrations were organised by various political parties and other organisations in several towns in the district on Monday to protest against the police’s high handedness in connection with the Telangana March on Sunday.
Members of T-JAC district unit and activists of Telugu Desam party organised different dharnas at Telangana crossroads while members of CPI ML new democracy burnt the effigy of Minister for Information and Public Relations D.K.Aruna.
Educational institutions including colleges, schools and other coaching centres remained closed. Members of ABVP and TRSV took out separate rallies in the town.
According to information, protest demonstrations were organised at Achempet, Bhootpur, Maktal, Atmakur, Jadcherala, Kothakota and other towns in the district.
NIZAMABAD: The bandh called by the T-JAC protesting against what it described as “repression” of the police on Telangana protagonists, evoked only partial response in the district on Monday.
However, all schools and educational institutions remained shut while cinema theatres suspended their first shows. RTC buses were sparsely plied before noon and restored all services by noon. Shops and business establishments, banks and offices were open. The TRS, the TDP, the CPI (ML) and the PDSU activists held dharnas and ‘rasta rokos’ across the district. Some protesters were taken into custody when they tried to take out a rally.
WARANGAL: The bandh call given by the Osmania University students Joint Action Committee (JAC) evoked partial response in the district.
The bandh was called to protest the violence that marred the Telangana March at Hyderabad on Sunday. Banks, educational institutions and some businesses were closed but the APS RTC buses and private transport were operating.
Shops and business establishments functioned normally after noon. Several protest rallies and demonstrations by different political parties and student organisations marked the bandh.
The members of Kakatiya University Joint Action Committee took out a massive rally from the university. They staged a demonstration at KU second gate and condemned the use of force and tear gas on the Telangana activists.
They demanded the dismissal of Home Minister P. Sabitha and DGP, V. Dinesh Reddy for suppressing the students’ leaders at OU during the March. “The Union government must stand by its December 9, 2009 statement on Telangana,” said KU JAC leader Sriram Shyam.
Communist Party of India district secretary T. Srinivasa Rao led a massive agitation protesting the police excess against the students and Telangana activists in Hyderabad on Sunday.
After burning the effigy of the central government for delay on the issue, the CPI leader asked the UPA government to adhere to the statement issued by Union Minister P. Chidambaram that promised to initiate the process of bifurcation of the State of Andhra Pradesh.
The advocates struck work and took out a rally. They formed a human chain at the District Courts Complex in protest. ADILABAD: The bandh called by Osmania University Joint Action Committee (OUJAC) in Telangana region on Monday was a failure as everything remained normal in Adilabad district. Some private schools in urban areas had however, closed down voluntarily.
There was no impact of the bandh on the RTC which ran its services normally. Cinema houses, petrol bunks etc. were open during the day while the usually visible 'enforcement' of bandh by groups of activists was absent in the morning.
Meanwhile the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) leaders and cadres who had participated in the Telangana March at Hyderabad the previous day, returned to Adilabad on Monday. KARIMNAGAR: The bandh call given by the Osmania University student Joint Action Committee in protest against the police’s high handedness during the Telangana March in Hyderabad on Sunday, evoked mixed response in Karimnagar district in general and Karimangar town in particular on Monday.
Only private educational institutions declared a holiday in view of the bandh call and all the government educational institutions functioned normally.
The RTC also operated its services normally without any impediments. However, cinema halls, petrol filling stations, banks and some shops and business establishments remained closed. The BJP and TDP activists staged dharnas separately in front of the RTC bus station complex. However, the police shifted the protestors and ensured the smooth passage of vehicles. Similarly, the Satavahana University student JAC leaders also staged a dharna and ‘rasta roko’ on the Hyderabad Road obstructing traffic.

The writing on the wall is loud and clear -- The selfish politicians are the ones who will benefit at the cost of the naive middle class students. As a past student from the region, I along with many other classmates have missed out on many good opportunities such as written tests/interviews with MNCs & higher education in overseas universities etc due to the non-completion of professional courses on time. Parents of the students invest time, effort, energy & money (sometimes borrowing money from banks for higher studies) & their expectations and dreams end up down the drain because the students are misled with false hopes from the unscrupulous politicians and organised gangs & thugs who get paid to disrupt normal life. Politicians get the students on the road in the name of agitation; while they sit in their lavish houses with loads of illegal stash of money & drive around in air-conditioned cars. Please don't let the stupid politicians interfere with your life's goals & ambitions.
Another reckless act by the leaders of so called Telengana movement that bought nothing but miseries to them as well as others in AP. This whole tamasha has placed those hard working Indians with inconvenience the business community, who loss its business. I wonder why these leaders are reckless to launch these agitation that results in the loss of property and on occasion the precious life. In these age these actions are unwarranted. The people who instigates these movement and bandh must be held financially liable for the loss of property and business. And, this should be written in to our constitution. Who is going to pay for all the securities, lost business and loss of life? This is absolute madness in India. Leaders are still trapped in the past policies of deliberate blunder and unproductive life. I wonder, why freedom of expression means freedom to do anything to disruptive disruptive leaders.
