Actor and TDP MLA from Hindupur N. Balakrishna on Wednesday escaped unhurt in a road accident near Bagepalli in Karnataka, while on his way to the Bengaluru airport.

Mr. Balakrishna participated in several programmes and interacted with people during his three-day tour of the constituency and left on Wednesday for Bengaluru to catch a flight to Hyderabad. Mr. Balakrishna, who chose to drive the car himself — it is said as is his wont — drove close to the road divider on NH 44 after he crossed the AP border, leading to the front right tyre of his SUV bursting.

“Soon after the tyre burst, the SUV swerved to its right. But Mr. Balakrishna controlled the vehicle while the vehicle following it screeched to a halt just behind it,” said Nagappa, a witness.

Mr. Balakrishna soon left for the airport in another vehicle.

Meanwhile, three people from his vehicle and the one following behind suffered minor concussions and sprains.
