The district officials, nursing students and staff of the Medical and Health Department took part in the Mother and Child Safety rally taken out on the Trunk Road here on Monday.

Speaking before flagging off the rally, Joint Collector S. Rajkumar said that every family should take utmost care about the safety and health of a pregnant woman, so that there would not be any health related issues affecting the mother and the child.

He said that there was a strong need to provide the vitamin A and various medicines that provide pregnant women resistance from various diseases.

Stating that nutrition would play a key role, Mr. Rajkumar called upon the steps to be taken for creating more awareness on the aspect of taking quality and high nutritious foods.

In their formative years, children would develop well in all respects, if they would be given the right food and surrounding atmosphere.

When newborns complained of any illness regardless of the intensity, they should be immediately referred to the hospital, said Mr. Rajkumar. Also, pregnant women complaining of blood pressure and other ailments should be taken immediate care of, he added.
