Upa-Lok Ayukta of Andhra Pradesh M.V.S. Krishnaji Rao on Friday issued arrest warrant against the Superintendent of Police of Nalgonda district for his failure to appear before the institution and not sending any communication citing reasons for his absence in a case related to encroachment of government lands.
It was also directed that the arrest warrant should be executed by the Deputy Inspector General of Police concerned and the matter was posted to March 22.
The Upa-Lok Ayukta received complaints last year that Nagarjunasagar Project camp quarters at Miryalaguda and the government lands under their control were encroached upon by some persons with the backing and influence of some political leaders. However, no action was taken though the matter was informed to the authorities concerned.
In his report submitted to the institution on January 3, the Principal Secretary to Government (Political), stated that a committee headed by the District Collector as chairman, the SP as member and the Chief Engineer of NSP as member convener was appointed to look into the matter. The Upa-Lok Ayukta directed the committee to appear before the institution to appraise the status of the case on February 23.
Chief Engineer of NSP D. Yella Reddy along with engineers concerned appeared before Upa-Lok Ayukta on February and submitted a report. The District Collector also submitted a report on February 2. Treating it as a special case, it was posted to Friday directing the committee to appear before it. However, the SP did not appear before the institution, not submitted any report or sent any information expressing his inability to appear in person.
Keeping in view the circumstances, the Upa-Lok Ayukta adjudged it is a fit case to issue arrest warrant against the SP.
