The concerns of the government employees over the shifting of the capital of Andhra Pradesh came up for a discussion at the executive body meeting of the APNGOs’ Association here on Sunday.
The association leaders raised the problems that the employees would face if the capital shift was taken up at one go. The shift should have to be taken up in a phased manner if the employees are to adjust themselves and also find required facilities in the new place, they said.
Addressing a media conference later, APNGOs president P. Ashok Babu said the government should consider the relocation of employees only after creating all necessary facilities in the capital region. Apart from concerns on infrastructural facilities, the employees would find it difficult to shift suddenly from Hyderabad where they had settled down for so many years and got personal property as well.
“Instead of wholesale shifting, the process could be taken up in a phased manner like 10 per cent each year. Emergency services should, however, be immediately shifted and there is no need for such exceptions,” said Mr. Ashok Babu.
The sudden relocation of the new capital would cause problems not only to the employees but also to the general public as they would not be able to make use of the government services effectively.
Mr. Ashok Babu said the issue was already brought to the notice of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu recently.
The APNGOs leaders expressed unhappiness over the manner in which the health cards programme was being implemented. They said that the corporate hospitals were not delivering services to employees under this. The JAC would decide soon on whether to pay the premium or not.
The leaders deplored that the government was indifferent to their demand for 69 per cent hike under the pay revision commission. They opposed the government’s nod for just 29 per cent.
