With the power generation at Srisailam project turning into a big concern during this time of the year, Irrigation Minister Devineni Minister on Monday said the State government had suspended power generation and efforts were on to make the Telangana government to suspend power generation.
The present water level at Srisailam has come down to 860 ft and further decline could bring in untold problems for both the States, especially Rayalaseema region in Andhra Pradesh. The same was brought to the notice of Telangana Irrigation Minister Harish Rao. Top officials from irrigation and electricity from two States were holding a series of meeting and hope things to end on a positive note by evening, said Mr. Devineni here.
Srisailam water is important to both the States and if water levels deplete further, it could pose drinking water challenges in Rayalaseema region during summer. He further explained that all efforts were being made to ensure that not much of water is released into the sea.
Under this initiative, the water storage at Pulichintala project was maintained at 10.15 tmcft last night and authorities were working hard to ensure minimum property loss. The A.P. government was committed to extend all help to families in four villages of Nalgonda district, which will be affected due for impounding of 20 tmcft water in the project.
Already Rs.20 crore was paid to Telangana government under relief and rehabilitation to the affected families. Authorities from both the States were working in coordination to asses the land requirement and other issues and depending on further requirement, the State government would be releasing additional funds.
