April 24, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:45 am IST - HYDERABAD:

The State government has lost revenue of Rs.10,000 crore in the last 10 years in the sale of sand, which was “looted” by sand mafia. This information was furnished by officials to the Cabinet Sub-Committee to curb corruption and protect public money, which met under the chairmanship of Finance Minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu on Thursday.

The committee was informed that while the government generated Rs.500 crore in the last five months from sand sale, it had been only Rs.100 crore a year in the last 10 years. The panel opined that the new sand policy would further increase the revenue to the government.

The officials also brought to the notice of the panel that government had lost huge revenue owing to irregularities in liquor sales in the past. The review report on liquor cases was submitted to the Sub-Committee by Excise Commissioner. They were asked to furnish a full-fledged report at the next meeting slated for April 30. The meeting also reviewed the discrepancies that took place in the land allotment of Nagarjuna Thermal Power Plant in Srikakulam district.

In this regard, Labour Minister K. Atchan Naidu suggested that the government resumed the land allotted to the plant and asked the officials to submit a report in the next GoM meeting.

The Sub-committee was also informed about the violations in Kannedhara Mining lease. The officials said that the lease was given to former Revenue Minister Dharmana Prasada Rao’s son against the interests of tribal people living in the hilly region.

They informed the Ministers that a No-Objection Certificate (NoC) was issued violating the revenue norms. The panel asked the officials to take immediate action in this regard.

The Ministers also sought a report on the irregularities in the construction of houses.

Vanpic land row

The Cabinet sub-committee to curb corruption has not been able to make headway over the alleged irregularities in the land allotted to Vadarevu and Nizampatnam Port Industrial Corridor (Vanpic) project.

The government, which decided to cancel the land allotment for violation of rules, had referred the issue to the Advocate General and sought full details.

However, as all files pertaining to the issue were with the CBI, Collectors could not furnish the information, the panel was informed.

However, the committee took a decision related to land allotment to Kenneta project in Anantapur and decided to issue show-cause notice and follow it up with cancellation of land within a week for violation of stipulations.
