Employees of the Andhra Pradesh Government working in departments with a direct public interface will start moving to Vijayawada and Guntur soon, said APNGO association president P. Ashok Babu.
“Employees working in departments like Chief Ministers Relief Fund (CMRF), Town Planning, Education and Health departments will start relocating to Vijayawada and Guntur immediately. The other employees will move in a phased manner,’’ Mr. Ashok Babu told The Hindu on the sidelines of Nava Nirmana Deekha held at Benz Centre here on Monday.
The statement comes in the backdrop of an initial reluctance of the employees to relocate to the new Capital citing lack of residential spaces and other amenities in Vijayawada and Guntur.
The State Government has also assured employees of building 10,000 houses in the Core Capital Region of the new Capital Amaravathi with loan from HUDCO. A proposal has been sent to the Capital Region Development Authority to allot 130 acres for construction of residential complexes in the new Capital, he said.
Employees would also have an option of buying the apartments with loans taken from HUDCO or else just use them as quarters.
Earlier, Mr. Ashok Babu assured the CM of the full support of NGOs in rebuilding the state. He also thanked him for granting a long-pending demand of 43 per cent fitment on basic pay along with 27 per cent arrears.
Over 250 secretarial staff who reached the city in the morning also attended the meeting.
The Chief Minister also felicitated 20 persons from different walks of life who had taken part in the Samaikhyandhra movement, which included Dr. Samaram, former IMA president, industrialist M. Narayana Prasad and others.
