Andhra Pradesh to launch Hudhud portal to assess damage

A portal on Hudhud cyclone will be created to ensure proper and correct enumeration of the property damaged by the very severe cyclone that hit the north coastal districts on Sunday, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu said in Visakhapatnam on Friday.

The National Rural Employment Generation Scheme (NREGS) supervisors will take photos and videograph the damage with the help of tabs being sent to them and the data would be uplinked to the portal. This would be the documentary evidence while the on-field government officials would also verify the damages. Those who have repaired their house can send photographs of their property.

The compensation would be directly remitted to accounts of victims eliminating the role of middlemen, Mr. Naidu said at a press conference before leaving for Paderu to survey the cyclone damage in the Agency area.

Eighty per cent of power supply and 90 per cent of water supply would be completed by Saturday, he said.

Mr. Naidu described the work being done on restoration of power supply, as making an impossible thing possible. “They have done a good job and I will appreciate them later since some work is yet to be done,” he said.

Eighty per cent of the area would be covered by Saturday morning and the remaining 20 per cent, which was a very difficult area, would get back power supply soon.

There were logistic problems in sourcing and packing the essential commodities and vegetables for distribution to the victims but they were being solved. Bursting of pipes at two places affected restoration of water supply, he explained.

The Chief Minister praised people of Visakhapatnam for showing extraordinary qualities of leadership, honesty and will, in spite of the devastation the City had suffered. “Wherever I went for surprise visits, I was appreciated and I never expected this. They have understood me and there is no gap between me and the common man,” Mr. Naidu said.

He thanked governments of Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Karnataka and West Bengal and the Centre for the support they were extending to the relief work in north coastal districts.

Airport would become operational from Saturday and foundation for the Signature Tower in the IT park would be laid within a month.
