The Centre has agreed to provide an additional 8.63 million cubic metres of natural gas a day (mcmd) to Andhra Pradesh and with this, the State's requirement of 18 mcmd has been met, according to Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Murli Deora.
Addressing journalists jointly with Chief Minister K. Rosaiah here on Thursday, after the latter called on him to seek more gas, Mr. Deora said additional gas would be allotted to Andhra Pradesh if any new fertilizer plant needed it.
The Chief Minister said the Centre had also agreed to release 15 lakh new LPG connections under the “Deepam” programme to the State. This would reduce the need and utility of kerosene. The work of laying new pipelines to supply gas to the households in urban areas, particularly in Hyderabad, was in progress and this would also be completed very soon, he said.
Mr. Rosaiah met Water Resources Minister P.K. Bansal and wanted him to declare Polavram project as a national project. He sought approval for Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Pranahita Chevalla Sujala Sravanti under the Accelerated Irrigation Benefit Programme (AIBP) and for it being declared as a national project.
Utilisation of water
Mr. Rosaiah asked for setting up of an Inter-State Water Dispute Tribunal under Section-4 of the Inter-State Water Disputes Act on utilisation of water on river Vamsadhara.
