Family income limit for ST students enhanced

The Andhra Pradesh Government on Thursday enhanced the annual family income limit for Scheduled Tribe (ST) students from Rs.2.5 lakh to Rs. 6 lakh to be eligible under the ‘Ambedkar Overseas Vidya Nidhi’ scheme to pursue higher studies in foreign universities.

According to a G.O. issued here, the Director of Tribal Welfare has sought enhancement of the limit to Rs. 6 lakh and reduce minimum pass percentage of marks for PG course in medicine from 60 per cent to 55 per cent on par with SC students.

In January 2015, the government has modified the scheme by including 10 more countries under eligible countries to avail grant under the scheme, permitting one-year and one-and-half years diploma courses and adding more courses, including MBBS in China, Philippines, and Kazakhastn.
