Allocation of land to Kuchipudi dancer opposed

July 05, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 06:04 am IST - SRIKAKULAM:

Andhra Pradesh Praja Natyamandali on Saturday strongly objected proposed allocation of 16 acres of land for Kuchipudi dance teacher Swati Somanath for establishing a dance academy. The Mandali which held its meeting said that Ms Swati had never served the people though she belonged to Srikakulam district.

Mandali State vice-president Gurugubilli Rajeswara Rao said that the government should consider persons like Raghupatruni Srikanth, Mavuduri Jagannatha Sarma, Sanikili Krishna if it wanted to allocate land for setting up dance school in Srikakulam district. “All these persons have been teaching dance to the enthusiastic students in rented buildings by facing many struggles,” he added.

It is unwise to allocate land at Kallepalli to Ms Swati Somanath while ignoring the local personalities
