March 14, 2015 07:21 pm | Updated 07:21 pm IST - CHITTOOR:

With the onset of summer season, the District Medical and Health Department officials are slowly heaving a sigh of relief with decline in the number of swine flu cases for the past fortnight.

District Medical and Health Officer K. Koteswari told the media persons that at present there were only three swine flu patients, including a girl child, undergoing treatment at hospitals in Tirupati and Vellore in Tamil Nadu, while 20 patients were discharged over a period of one month from hospitals in Chittoor, Tirupati and Vellore. Only a single of case of casualty was reported early this year.

The DMHO said that the death of an old man from Chittoor town, a couple of days ago, was due to serious health complications and not due to swine flu.

"During our medical examination and survey, most of the swine flu patients were from the villages bordering with Tamil Nadu, while many of them had spent several days in the neighboring states and that they had contracted the virus after they visited other places. Our efforts in holding series of medical camps in the rural areas led to a lot of public awareness on swine flu," she said.
