All set for regularisation of contract staff

September 22, 2014 01:12 am | Updated 01:12 am IST - HYDERABAD:

The Government of Telangana has finalised guidelines for regularisation of contract employees. They will be sent to Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao for approval.

Sources stated that the committee set up for the purpose and headed by Chief Secretary Rajiv Sharma has decided to consider at least 5 years of service till June 2, 2014 as the minimum eligibility for contract staff for regularisation of their service. However, the rule of reservation and roster would also be followed in the exercise.

The State Government would bring in a new legislation soon amending the existing set of rules for regularisation of contract staff.

The government move assumes significance in the wake of an agitation in the Osmania University campus against regularisation of contract employees. The student unions backed by opposition parties are arguing that regularisation of contract staff would reduce the employment opportunities to the youth.

However, the government is firm to implement it as it was one of the poll promise and believes that the opposition parties are behind the students’ stir in Osmania University. According to an estimate, there are about 20,000 contract employees in Telangana.
