Akhanda Godavari tourism project: ‘extend help to consultancy’

Highlighting the need for commencing the ‘Akhanda Godavari’ tourism project works at the earliest, District Collector H. Arun Kumar on Wednesday asked the officials of the Tourism Department to extend support to the consultancy that was appointed to prepare the detailed project report (DPR).

Addressing a meeting with the officials and the representatives of the JLL Consultancy here, Mr. Arun Kumar said that a sum of Rs. 100 crore would be spent on developing infrastructure and facilities at tourist spots in and around Rajamahendravaram and the funds were already sanctioned by the government. He said that the banks of the Godavari at Rajamahendravaram, island villages in the river, Havelock Bridge across the Godavari, nurseries at Kadiyam, ancient temples and historic monuments would be given a facelift, besides constructing resorts and arranging facilities like river cruise for the domestic and international tourists.

Mr. Arun Kumar advised the representatives of the consultancy firm to visit all the spots to be developed before preparing the DPR. He also asked the officials of the Tourism Department to accompany the consultants and ensure that the works would be completed in time.

Referring to the Kakinada-Hope Island-Konaseema Tourism Circuit Project, he said that an extent of 50 acres of land at Kakinada Beach had been allocated to the Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation, where the construction works were in progress.
