Tension prevailed at Pathikonda in Kurnool district on Friday leading to lathicharge by the police to control AISF activists who thrashed a youth for disrupting the speech of student leader of JNU Kanhaiya Kumar.

Addressing a meet by the AISF , Mr. Kumar alleged that intolerance had risen in the country and RSS and Gorakshak activists were attacking Dalits and Muslims. He termed the Centre’s policies anti-people andcalled upon youth to work ‘to restore secular governance’.

At this juncture, a youth interrupted Mr. Kumar calling him a traitor who raised pro-Pakistan slogans and was facing sedition charges. This enraged the AISF activists who chased and beat him with sticks even as the police were taking him out of the venue. The police resorted to caning to control the situation.
