TIRUPATI: An elderly passenger travelling by Venkatadri Express complained of chain-snatching with the Tirupati railway police, here on Saturday.

According to the railway police, the train which was bound for Tirupati from Hyderabad, halted for a brief while near Gooty town of Anantapur district at 2 a.m.. During this time, an unidentified person reportedly snatched a gold ornament, weighing 25 gm, from Seshamma, a resident of Hyderabad, in S1 compartment of the train.

With no option in sight, the latter lodged a complaint with the railway police in Tirupati on Saturday, before continuing her pilgrimage to Tirumala. A case has been registered and officials relayed the information to their counterparts stationed at Gooty.

Though there were unconfirmed reports of robbery in other compartments, officials said they have received one complaint and have launched an investigation into the issue.
