Director-General of Police (DGP) N. Sambasiva Rao has said the police are trying to identify the miscreants who allegedly vandalised the statue of former MLA Vangaveeti Mohana Ranga in Vijayawada, and those who damaged film banners of Khaidi No.150 , in Gudivada division in the district on Monday.

Miscreants tore the flexi banners of the film at Atapaka village in Kaikalur mandal in the early hours. Banners of the same film and Mohana Ranga were damaged at Tallayapalem village in Kalidindi mandal in the district.

When the news of the damage spread, fans of actor-turned-politician K. Chiranjeevi staged a protest at Atapaka village. They took out a rally from the village to the Gandhi Bomma Centre in Kaikalur town.

The police pacified the protesters promising to register a case and arrest the culprits as early as possible.

Worried over the series of incidents involving damage to the statues and banners, Mr. Rao, at a press conference here, warned of serious action against those who indulged in the incidents, which occurred in a span of 48 hours in Krishna district.

The police have formed special teams to trace the accused in the three cases. Patrolling would be intensified to avoid recurrence of such incidents, he said.

“We are observing the CCTV footages on the Vijayawada incident, which occurred on Sunday. In Kaikalur and Kalidindi incidents, we are clueless so far. At the same time, we are trying to regulate banners at public places,” Mr. Rao said.
