Police begin probe into ex-MLA’s complaint

January 18, 2017 12:55 am | Updated 12:55 am IST - GUNTUR:

Taking cognizance of a complaint against a DSP by two-time MLA and YSRCP general secretary Janga Krishna Murthy, the Guntur Rural Police have initiated an inquiry into the allegations against DSP, Gurazala, Nageswara Rao, for allegedly manhandling Mr. Krishna Murthy at the Gurazala police station on August 29, 2016.

Mr. Krishna Murthy met Superintendent of Police, Guntur Rural, K. Narayan Naik, on Tuesday and narrated the sequence of events on that day. Mr. Krishna Murthy told the SP that the DSP had manhandled him in spite of knowing that he had been operated upon twice.

Explaining the events, Mr. Krishna Murthy said the Gurazala police had imposed prohibitory orders under Section 144 in the wake of a wordy duel between MLA, Gurazala Y. Srinivasa Rao and Macherla MLA P. Ramakrishna Reddy over allegations of corruption during Krishna Pushkarams. The police had shown bias in placing him under house arrest while allowing Mr. Srinivasa Rao to take out a procession.

Mr. Krishna Murthy said he had gone to the police station after the police had arrested a ZPTC member and an MPP member. Around 1 p.m., the DSP came to the police station and without any provocation, beat up the ZPTC member.

Even as he was questioning the DSP, he came and manhandled Mr. Krishna Murthy, he claimed.

“I have filed a complaint before the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and also filed a complaint at the i-Click centre. I demand that an FIR be filed against the DSP and proceedings initiated against him,” Mr. Krishna Murthy said.
