Officials told to act fast on expressway alignment

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Monday instructed officials of the Roads and Buildings Department to complete the alignment of the proposed Amaravati-Anantapur Expressway in a week to take up land acquisition at the earliest. The target is to lay the road in two years.

At a review meeting on road projects at the Interim Government Complex at Velagapudi in Guntur district, Mr. Naidu said the expressway that would link the emerging capital city Amaravati with Anantapur was the first Greenfield road project in the country and a railway line would run along its course.

Unique project

He directed Additional Secretary (CMO) A.V. Rajamouli to write letters to the Union Ministers concerned, seeking necessary clearances and wanted project monitoring units in five districts. Mr. Naidu ordered that the Kanaka Durga flyover should be ready by August 15 and the highway stretch from Kummaripalem Junction to the foothill of Indrakeeladri, including Arjuna Veedhi, Prakasam barrage and Bandar Canal, to be beautified.

The Chief Minister later examined the proposals for construction of the long-pending flyover at Benz Circle and said expansion of the Vijayawada - Machilipatnam highway should be expedited.

Transport Minister Sidda Raghava Rao, Special Chief Secretary (CMO) Satish Chandra, Principal Secretary (transport) Sumita Dawra and APSRTC Managing Director Malakondaiah were present.
