In order to drastically bring down the crime rate and instil confidence among the public, the Chittoor police have mooted plans to bring the entire corporation limits under digital surveillance, for which public cooperation is sought in a big way for installation of CC cameras and their linkage with the Command Control at the district headquarters.

Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, Deputy Superintendent of Police (Chittoor sub-division) M. Lakshmi Naidu and Chittoor Two Town Circle-Inspector Venkatappa said the Command Control Network initiated by Superintendent of Police Ghattamaneni Srinivas in 2015 had been giving excellent results in crime control, easing out of traffic snarls, monitoring of night beats and highway patrolling.

“In order to extend the purview of the Command Control, more and more CC cameras have to be installed at all vital streets, road junctions and highway points of the corporation on the outskirts. For this, public cooperation is need of the hour, and this will reduce the financial burden on the Police Department and enhance the participation of the public in realising a more people-friendly policing,” the cops said.

The officials said as of now there were 54 CC cameras in the corporation’s purview coming under the Command Control. The latest focus would be on the main roads passing through Chittoor, arterial junctions and outskirts.

They said it would cost around ₹17,000 to creating each unit of digital surveillance, including camera, video converter, adopter, safety box, cables and other equipment.

The public groups and influential individuals could extend their cooperation in arranging the digital surveillance units at their respective areas. Residents of different colonies and apartments could form into groups and collectively sponsor the equipment.
