The Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority (APCRDA) will take up infrastructure works in the capital city in a phased manner. The authority, chaired by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, has approved the designs prepared by China-based GIIC and Indian company Aarvee.
The city has been divided into 13 zones based on the contours. The authority will develop three zones initially and has estimated that it will cost ₹2,982 crore. The tenders will be invited in a week, according to Municipal Administration Minister P. Narayana.
The Chief Minister had a review meeting with the APCRDA at the Secretariat near here on Wednesday.
Another barrage planned
Disclosing details of the meeting, Mr. Narayana said water supply, sewerage, and electricity systems would be in place in 18 months from the date of finalising the tenders which would be invited in a week. The white top roads (cement roads) would be completed in six months thereof. All facilities would be created in three years, he said.
Works on the first of the three zones were estimated to cost ₹1,014 crore; zone II works would cost ₹1126 croreI; and zone-III ₹841 crore. The government plans to provide 24X7 water supply in the three zones and estimated that 107 MLD of water was required every day.
The drinking water requirements by 2050 were estimated to be 8 tmc in Amaravati, Vijayawada, Guntur, Tadepalli and Mangalagiri. The present capacity of the Prakasam barrage was 3 tmc. As much as 6.7 lakh litre a day was required in the three zones to meet drinking, industry, service sector requirements. It was estimated that 35 lakh people would reside in the three zones.
Latest power technologies
The government is planning to construct another barrage upstream of the Prakasam Barrage. The Irrigation Department had been asked to draw the plans, he said.
Three sewage treatment plants (STPs) with a capacity of 85 MLD would be constructed.
Power requirements in these zones were estimated at 250 MW. Compact sub stations would be constructed using latest technologies to bring down transmission and distribution losses to 4.9% as against existing 7% in Andhra Pradesh. In fact, the State stands first in the country with lowest losses, while the average losses across the country was 10%, he said.
Roads covering 36 km would be constructed in eight villages. A storm water network with a length of 278 km would also be constructed as part of basic facilities. The white top would be constructed once all other facilities such as storm water, UG power lines etc. were in place, he said. Anantavaram, Nekkallu part, Sakhamuru part will form part of zone-I; Nelapadu part, Sakhamuru part, Nekkallu part, Thulllur, and Anantavaram part will be in zone-II; and Nelapadu part, Sakhamuru, Kondamadugu part and Rayapudi part in zone-III.
Hudco and World Bank loans
The Minister said that Hudco and World Bank had in principle sanctioned loans to take up the infrastructure works in the capital city. The Hudco has approved a ₹7,500 crore loan, while the WB has sanctioned a ₹6,500 crore loan. The government intends to avail the loans as soon as the works began. Else, we would end up paying more interest, he added.
