The State government made a budgetary allocation of ₹3,860 crore for the housing sector to enable construction of houses for the homeless poor, Deputy Chief Minister K.E. Krishnamurthy said on Saturday.

Speaking as chief guest after distribution of sanction letters to the beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana and ‘Housing for All’, and disbursal of new pensions here, Mr. Krishnamurthy asserted that 12 lakh houses were being built in the State. “In all, 4,153 houses have been sanctioned and 3,304 new pensions disbursed in the district on Saturday,” he stated. The beneficiaries must contribute ₹25,000 to avail of the government subsidy of ₹2.50 lakh and bank loan of ₹75,000 and build a house with ₹3.50 lakh, he said.Under NTR Bharosa, ₹6,000 crore was being disbursed among 46 lakh beneficiaries in the State. Aadarana scheme would be launched soon, he added. Information Minister Kaluva Srinivasulu, who is district in charge Minister, said 1.64 lakh houses were being built under various schemes in the district. Houses were sanctioned to 4,153 beneficiaries who owned house sites. Multi-storeyed apartments would be built to benefit 25,000 families, he said. An additional sum of ₹25,000 each was sanctioned to 39,450 pending houses sanctioned by the previous government.

Houses for journalists

He said a committee was constituted to formulate an action plan and build houses for journalists by sanctioning funds to the Information and Public Relations Department, and a decision would be taken shortly, Mr. Srinivasulu said. Nearly 18,000 accreditations were sanctioned in the State earlier and guidelines would be framed for the journalists’ housing programme before the conclusion of the budget session of the Assembly, he added.

Kurnool MLA S.V. Mohan Reddy said the Chief Minister assured to set up a High Court bench in Rayalaseema. He wanted it to be established in Kurnool.

District Collector S. Satyanarayana and former Minister E. Prathap Reddy spoke.

Municipal Commissioner C.B. Harinatha Reddy and Housing director Venkateswar Reddy were present.
