Financial help will be extended to victims after verification of reports: Collector

The toll due to prevailing heat wave conditions in Srikakulam district has reached 38, says an official record.

Special committees with revenue and police officials have been constituted to verify the exact causes of another 50 deaths that occurred in the district. The State government will extend financial support to the victims only after verifying whether or not the deaths occurred due to sunstroke or some other reasons.

Srikakulam Collector Saurabh Gaur assured the kin of the heat wave victims that a sympathetic view would be adopted and financial help would be extended even if the post-mortem was not performed in genuine heat stroke cases.

Medical centre

Addressing a media conference here on Wednesday, the Collector said that the district administration had taken several measures such as setting up medical relief centres and water supply centres in view of the scorching summer.

Seed distribution

Speaking about the seeds distribution, Mr. Gaur expressed satisfaction over the proper distribution of seeds in all three divisions.

The Collector said that around 49, 000 quintals of seeds would be supplied to farmers for the coming kharif season.

“ When compared to previous years, additionally, over 10,000 quintals of seeds are being supplied this year,” he added.
