Three persons were killed and eight were injured when a sports utility vehicle rammed a stationary truck near Ithepalli area of Chandragiri mandal, in the early hours of Wednesday.
According to Chandragiri police, the victims hailed from Tiruvannamalai district of Tamil Nadu, and were en route to Tirumala, when the accident occurred on the Puthalapattu-Naidupeta highway.
Among them Elumalai (31), Indira (38) and Palaniammal (55) died on the spot, while Chenna Krishnan (40), Sumathi (36), Palani (40), Surya (26), Selvi (26), Priyanka (14), Sarvesh (1), and the SUV’s driver, Venkatesh (26), sustained injuries. Passers-by alerted the officials concerned and shifted the victims to Ruia Hospital in Tirupati.
A case has been registered and investigation is on. It may be recalled that several accidents, in recent times, have occurred on the same highway at different points, furthering the notion of a default accident-prone area.
