The Chittoor (Rural East) police, in a two-day operation, nabbed three accused in the firing case on Chittoor outskirts on September 4. A Bengaluru-based software engineer and his father were injured in the incident.

Circle inspector S. Chandrasekhar presented the three accused at a press meet here on Sunday. He said that on September 4 night, some unidentified persons barged into the compound of one Murugaiah at Punepalle crossroads on Chittoor outskirts. They opened two rounds of fire, injuring Murugaiah and his son Dinesh Reddy, before escaping from the scene.

During the investigation, led by district SP Ghattamaneni Srinivas, it was found that some of the gang members were from Jharkhand. On September 22, a special party left for Doltongunj in Jharkhand and nabbed one T. Srinu there, who was actually a resident of Jubilee Hills in Hyderabad.

On September 24, the police nabbed two more accused in and around Chittoor identified as Kumar of GD Nellore mandal in Chittoor district and Siva Kumar of Hyderabad. The accused revealed that they had actually come to Chittoor to murder one Viswanatha Naidu of Gyarampalle village nearby, but they could not execute the job, for which they had been hired, due to unfavourable conditions.

Later, the gang barged into a nearby home of Murugaiah with an intention to commit a robbery for expenses for their return journey. In the process, they opened fire when the father-son duo retaliated.

Mr. Chandrasekhar said that four more persons belonging to the gang would be arrested soon.
