These cadets not only exhibited their prowess in the NCC-related activities, but also in the field of academics by standing tall ahead of others.

The NCC cadet welfare society offered scholarships to a total of 27 cadets, all students of rural schools. 23 are girl cadets of 5(A) Girls Battalion and the remaining are boys from the 29(A) Battalion, Tirupati.

Group Commander Colonel Rajeev Negi advised the cadets from the countryside to make a big career in the NCC and further in the armed forces. He urged them to see beyond their native village and aim high. “While girls are better than boys in exhibiting commitment, desire to excel and methodical planning, most parents are clipping their wings by disallowing them from participating in higher level camps”, he said.

The cadets are from ZP High Schools of Damalcheruvu, Chandragiri, Sri Padmavathi Girls High School (Tirupati) and SVBNR High School (Tirumala). The list of scholarship winners include best shooter cadet Hemanth Kumar from 11(A) Air Squadron (Tech).

Officer Commanding Col. Anand Mehrotra, Training Officer Lt. Col. V.B. Reddy and Officers Commanding Lt. Col. K.N. Suresh and Wg Cdr Y.K. Mohan and Ashok K. Kumar congratulated the cadets.

The parents who gathered for the award of scholarships were visibly elated on seeing their wards getting the rare honour.
