The stage is set at Sri Guru Ranghavendra Mutt, Mantralayam, Andhra Pradesh, for writing a world record. As many as 1,800 singers from six States with six different linguistic backgrounds will collectively sing 108 devotional Kannada songs on Lord Anjaneya, for making an entry in the Telugu Book of Records.
Addressing a media conference on the mutt premises, S.K. Srinivas Rao, mutt manager, said that the six-hour continuous performance will begin at noon on Wednesday.
“The singers are arriving from Delhi, Maharashtra, Odisha, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka.
“The maximum number of singers will be from Andhra Pradesh with 996, followed by Karnataka 458 and Maharashtra 241.
“Most of the singers do not know Kannada, but they have practiced for the performance. Of them, 1,600 singers are women. Music keyboard, mridangam, tabla and violin will be mainly used in the performance,” he said.
The programme will be held on the mutt premises in the presence of Sri Subudhendra Tirtha, head and chief administrator of Sri Guru Ranghavendra Mutt of Mantralayam, he added.
As per the details provided, the whole event will be coordinated by Narayana Das, Deputy Director of Dasa Sahithya Project, Mantralayam Mutt.
N. Vadirajacharya, principal of the mutt’s Sanskrit Vidyapeeth, spoke. K. Appannacharya, Director of Dasa Sahithya Project, said that the Mantralayam Mutt is planning to start a Harikatha Pathashala, a first of its kind in South India. “The work for Harikatha Pathasahala is in full swing. It will be commenced within six months. It will serve as a study and research centre for Dasa Sahitya of South India. The pathashala will plan to organise conferences of Harikatha narrators,” he said.
