It was a congregation of students who arrived from across the State to exhibit their expertise in Veda Parayanam at the two-day 16th Uttarandhra Veda Vidya Sammelanam that began at TTD Kalyana Mandapam on Monday morning.
About 180 students, aged between 7 and 20 years, from various Gurukulams and Vedic Patasalas located in Tirupati, Annavaram, Tuni, Srikakulam, Simhachalam, Bhadrachalam and Rajahmundry took part in the sammelanam.
Organised by Uttarandhra Veda Vidya Trust and supported by TTD, Endowments Department and Sri Bharadwaja Vedic Dharma Vignana Prachara Samstha, the event saw a number of pundits showing keen interest in testing the level of knowledge among the students in Vedas. “The idea is to spread the message of Vedas and introduce the younger generation to the ancient wisdom that unfolds chapters of our value system,” explains Durvasula Bhaskara Murthy, chief managing trustee of the trust.
Based on the diction and in-depth knowledge in Vedas, participants who appeared for the examination, will be given cash prizes. Apart from chanting of Vedas, spiritual discourse will be held by scholars to propagate the significance of Vedas.
According to P.N. Rao, organising trust member, Sadguru Kandukuri Sivananda Murthy, chairman of the trust, is expected to attend the valedictory programme on Tuesday.
