ONGOLE: Accusing the Congress and regional parties such as the Telugu Desam Party and YSR Congress of perpetuating dynastic politics, BJP State general secretary S. Suresh Reddy on Tuesday asserted that it was only in the BJP an ordinary party worker could go up the ladder to occupy the top position.

Addressing the BJP district executive committee meeting here, he said: “Like in the Congress, only a member of a particular family can aspire for the top position in the TDP and YSRC in Andhra Pradesh, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam in Tamil Nadu, and Biju Janata Dal in Odisha.” He said it was the BJP that provided an opportunity for the growth of ordinary party workers, and referred to Narendra Modi rising through the ranks to become the Prime Minister.

Similarly, leaders such as M. Venkaiah Naidu and Bangaru Laxman, with no political background, had risen in stature to lead the party at different times, he added.

The BJP, which did not have significant presence in States such as Assam and Jammu and Kashmir earlier, came to power subsequently in these States.

“The situation is conducive for the growth of the BJP in Andhra Pradesh, where the party membership has gone up from 1.70 lakh before 2014 to 40 lakh now,” he said, and wanted the party cadre to take the achievements of the Narendra Modi Government to the people at the grassroots level.
