TIRUPATI: ‘Women who inspired us and the world’ are the words inscribed on the ‘Hall of Fame’, a memorabilia comprising photographs of all women Nobel laureates at Sri Padmavati Medical College for Women here.
The wall containing the photos aims to serve as a constant reminder of their contributions and was unveiled by Health Minister Kamineni Srinivas, to commemorate the event of ‘Medical Sciences including Physiology’ session, during the ongoing 104th Indian Science Congress, here on Friday.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Srinivas urged the students not to underestimate their capabilities but work with dedication towards their goals. Citing the example of Mother Teresa, whose photograph adorned the top of the ‘Hall of Fame’, Dr. Srinivas called upon budding medical professionals to imbibe her spirit and render services to the patients.
On the ‘Swasthya Vidya Vahini (SVV)’ health scheme of the State government, he said, “The SVV, spread across a period of 10 months, will enable students pursuing various medical degrees, to work closer with the rural community. The students will not only prepare disease profiles of villages but also spread awareness on how to lead a healthy life,” he added.
Dr. Srinivas also spoke on the ‘Andariki Aarogyam’ scheme, which said would offer insurance to avail healthcare facilities.
Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences (SVIMS) Director and Vice Chancellor T.S. Ravikumar, recalled memories of his interaction with Nobel laureate and French immunologist Jean Dausset. He urged the students to focus on and pursue medical research, assuring them of all help in this regard.
