The Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC) has initiated the process of migration of its Central Excise/service tax assessees to GST with effect from January 9 and all the assessees should migrate by January 31, said assistant commissioner, Customs, Central Excise and Service Tax, Kurnool division, T. Senthil Murugan, on Monday.
As part of the efforts to ensure implementation of the GST (Goods and Services Tax ), the CBEC had taken steps to ensure migration of taxpayers to the new system in a simple, user-friendly and smooth manner, Mr. Murugan said here.
The registered taxpayers (both central excise and service tax) can log in to the CBEC’s web portal www.aces.gov.in and can securely access the provisional login ID and password given to them by the Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN).
Using it, they can log in to the GST portal
www.gst.gov.in to fill the required fields and submit scanned documents.
Help desk
The CBEC made available a 24x7 help desk with toll-free number 1800-1200-232 and email: cbecmitra.helpdesk@icegate.gov.in for assisting central excise/ service tax assessees.
The GSTN also has a help desk with number 0124-4688999 and email help@gst.gov.in.
A step-by-step taxpayers’ user guide for migration is available at www.aces.gov.in and www.cbec.gov.in, the assistant commissioner added.
Those who had already initiated the migration process to GST as a VAT assessee under the State Commercial Tax Department need not migrate again, Mr. Senthil Murugan said.
PAN is mandatory for migration and if the existing central excise/service tax registration code does not have a PAN, they have to obtain it and update the registration details in the ACES portal.
Awareness workshops
In oorder to create awareness, the Central Excise and Service Tax, Kurnool Division, would conduct workshops in Kurnool on January 18, at Adoni on January 19 and at Nandyal on January 20, Mr. Murugan said.
