PTI Andhra Pradesh Assembly Speaker N. Kirankumar Reddy arrives at a news conference on Thursday. On Friday, Reddy adjourned the House till Monday amid din over whether to conduct business in the wake of en masse resignations of legislators.

The Andhra Pradesh Assembly was adjourned till Monday amid debate over whether or not to continue proceedings in the wake of the en masse resignations of legislators, protesting the Centre’s decision to create a Telangana State.

Speaker N. Kirankumar Reddy, who has received the resignation letters from 117 members of Congress, TDP and PRP, sought the opinions of the floor leaders whether to continue the proceedings or not.

The Speaker made it clear that he has to speak to all those who resigned before taking a decision.

Urging the Speaker not to accept the resignations, as it may lead to a crisis, the floor leaders felt that the House should go ahead with the business.

Responding to a query, the Speaker said the question of whether the Government is in majority or not would not arise as the resignations have not been accepted.

As the debate was continuing, some members who send in their resignation entered the House raising the slogans against the division of Andhra Pradesh. Those in favour of separate Telangana raised slogans in support of their demands.
