An outside group acting against me: Srinivasan

June 08, 2013 02:01 am | Updated 02:37 am IST - CHENNAI:

N. Srinivasan, who recently stepped aside as president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), on Friday said a group from outside the institution wanted his ouster.

In an exclusive interview to ‘Dina Thanthi TV,’ a Tamil television channel, Mr.Srinivasan said that “A group wanted to gain entry into the BCCI.” The group had been acting against him, he added, without identifying the group.

Terming the entire controversy over IPL as media hype, he said no charge had been stated against him so far.

Asked whether a north Indian lobby was behind the issue, Mr. Srinivasan answered in the affirmative.

Legal recourse

To a question on whether he would seek legal recourse against those who carried a campaign against him, he said he would take a call once a clear picture emerged following submission of a BCCI panel’s report on the betting controversy

Stating that his son-in law Gurunath Meiyappan might not have committed any wrong doing, Mr. Srinivasan expressed shock over reports that seemed to rush into indictment of Mr. Meiyappan in the controversy.

He said, “I have till now discharged my duties perfectly. I have been fair and clean. Truth is the strongest supporter [in my case].”

Mr. Srinivasan said more steps would be taken to ensure such things would not recur in the coming IPL matches.
