November 27, 2012 10:09 pm | Updated 10:09 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

Alok Joshi was on Tuesday appointed head of India’s external intelligence gathering agency – Research and Analysis Wing (RAW). The Haryana cadre IPS officer will take charge from S.K. Tripathi on December 30, 2012.

“The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Alok Joshi, presently Special Secretary, RAW, as Secretary, RAW, Cabinet Secretariat for a period of two years or until further orders, whichever is earlier,” an official note said.

Government sources say that the appointment of Mr. Joshi, who has earlier served in Intelligence Bureau (IB) and Haryana Police, as RAW chief would help in better coordination in external and internal intelligence gathering.
