The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has signed an agreement with Internshala, an internship and training platform, to facilitate internships for Indian students.

As per the MoU, all colleges affiliated to the AICTE — the regulatory body for technical education under the Ministry for Human Resource Development — will now be able to help their students find internships through Internshala free of cost.

Internshala is used by over 40,000 organisations that offer more than four lakh internships every year, said an official release. The platform would help students find internships as well as offer them counselling and guidance, it added.

The AICTE is set to mandate internships for all students enrolled in institutions recognised by it in a bid to enhance the employability of students.

“We have made internships mandatory for students so that they can be equipped with skills before they take up jobs. Students will get exposure to the work environment and their professional skills including technical, managerial and communication skills would be honed,” said AICTE chairman Anil Sahasrabuddhe. “Internships would make them industry-ready before they step out of their colleges. ,” he added.
