The Bharatiya Janata Party will take “appropriate action” after the full inquiry report of the Karnataka Lokayukta on illegal mining is out, senior leader M. Venkaiah Naidu told journalists here on Saturday.
Refusing to answer a question on Karnataka Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa's indictment as per media leaks of the report, Mr. Naidu said: “We will not react to news stories. We will take appropriate action. Wait for the full inquiry report and then see what the BJP will do. I am not going into details.”
Mr. Naidu, who was in Maharashtra to attend a meeting of office-bearers, criticised the Centre and the State government for the triple blasts of July 13. “Mumbai saw train bombings in 2006, then the 26/11 attacks, and now the recent blasts. What is happening in the country? It is not safe in the hands of the UPA [United Progressive Alliance]. There was no terror strike in the United States after 9/11 although jihadis the world over are targeting it. The U.S. is busy dismantling terror networks and in India we are busy discussing whether terror is home grown or externally sponsored,” he said.
Routine assurances
He said the Prime Minister has been giving routine assurances about taking strict measures to prevent such attacks. “What is the government's policy? Condolence for the dead and compensation for the survivors?” he asked.
Mr. Naidu said his party would confront the government in the coming monsoon session of Parliament over the Mumbai blasts and over the issues of corruption, black money, and cash for votes, among others.
“Where are the promised security reforms? What happened to the much-touted security and counter terrorism machinery, the Ram Pradhan Committee recommendations, to the National Counter Terrorism Centre and the National Intelligence Grid?”
Cash-for-votes
Mr. Naidu said if the cash-for-votes investigation were conducted “honestly” and taken to its “logical conclusion,” the UPA government will “collapse at once.”
