Salaried employees in organised sector will have to provide their Aadhaar numbers for seeking benefits under the EPF scheme being operated by retirement fund body Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO).

It will also be mandatory for new members to submit their Aadhaar numbers as part of the KYC (Know Your Customer) verification from March 1, 2013.

“It has been decided to make Aadhaar numbers mandatory for new members...joining on or after March 1, 2013. However for existing members, the seeding of Aadhaar number has to done in a time bound manner,” an official order to the field staff said.

It has asked the field staff to ensure the collection of data (Aadhaar) in respect of member joining on or after March 1, 2013 on a monthly basis and in respect of existing members by June 30, 2013.

In case an employee does not have the Aadhaar number, the employer can issue an Enrolment Id (EID) as per the guidelines of the body. This EID would be converted into Aadhaar number later on, the order said.

The body would also seek the Aadhaar numbers of its pensioners through the banks. EPFO has decided to use Aadhaar as mandatory KYC credential to improve its services.

The pensioners can submit their Aadhaar number either to their pension paying branch of the bank or to the EPFO office.

The field staff has also been asked to contact the local UIDAI authorities requesting them to set up camps for enrolment in industrial areas and other places which they find suitable for the purpose.

The field offices are also directed to coordinate with district authorities during organising of camps for Aadhaar enrolments.

Earlier, EPFO had envisaged replacing its member’s account number with Aadhaar numbers to avoid inconvenience to those who had to apply for transfer of PF money to the new account with the new employer.

EPFO is working towards creating a central database where all members would have a unique account number and would not require to transfer PF accounts to another one in the event of changing jobs.

EPFO recently digitalised its database of regional offices and launched its e-passbook service where subscribers can access their account online. Now the body is working towards integrating this digital data base and bring them together at one place.

This will help EPFO members, particularly the construction workers, who often change their jobs or contractors.

Aadhar is a great scheme which will serve future Govts. in revenue collection as all transactions are linked to Aadhar. India's tax collection will more than double. Efforts must be made to seed Aadhar nos. into various other existing registrations and numbers, such as bank accounts, cars, houses owned, pvt. companies/firms owned, telephone/mobile connections, etc. Since teleconnections are already widespread, ensuring Aadhar No. to each subscriber will itself cover 70-80% of the population. Thus to begin with, each telecom user should mandatorily have an Aadhar within a given time frame of around 6 months.

I just enrolled myself for adhaar yesterday in Udaipur, Rajasthan just
because the govt. has made it mandatory to provide adhaar to seek any
govt. benefits. I sincerely hope this initiative was taken to benefit
the masses. But the irony is that I had to stand in a queue for 5
hours to get myself enrolled. The queue included old women and
children who could hardly stand. And I am also told that the actual
Adhaar number will be issued only after 2-3 months, whereas my
requirement was immediate. Now is the adhaar system created to
alleviate the miseries of the masses or create another misery is a
question yet to be answered.

What a fraud, first govt. makes this as optional and later makes it mandatory, this Aadhar will also become Aadhar for privacy breach and tracking personal details, this is much bigger an attack on social privacy than social security, i don't trust my govt. those who are singing songs in praise of Aadhar please also think from other angles this will look definitely differnt, similar project did happen in U.K but failed due to people pressure

Aadhar since its inception has been in doubtful. There is no point of
being too cynic ,as the same model fall onto its face in England.
Aadhar is a very ambitious project not only for the union government
but the country itself. In the present case, aadhar may play the 'game
changer' for the income tax department of this country.Let's hope it
work as it is supposed to .

Why can not PAN card be used for this purpose. And ADHAR no. could be
released based upon ones' PAN Number. This will clearly establishes the
link and will eliminate the multi identity and instead establish the
link between them.

I do not understand of having so many identity numbers for whatever
reason. Pan number is more than enough for this purpose. It need not be
treated for just paying taxes. Simply wasting tax payers money in
innovative ways.

The public do not know where the Aadhar Registration Centers are functioning. When we approach the Centers given in the Aadhar Website, we get a negative answer. Permanent centers should start functioning at the Municipal Ward Offices to complete the work. Uidai should publicise the venues of Aadhar Registration widely in the New papers periodically to help the public.

Aadhar may become Niradhar post general election if a non Congress Govt.
is formed.Billions rupee will then stand wasted and IT stalwart will go
back to his profession. What happened to similar bio metric ID effort by
a body of the Govt. meant for such purpose of population survey? But
Aadhar may be more suited,a contracted out venture and more accomodative
system,for certain political purposes.
