Five hundred and thirty-four cadets passed out of the Indian Military Academy here on Saturday, at the ceremonious parade reviewed by Army Chief General V.K. Singh.

A total of 518 cadets became officers of the Army, while 12 joined Assam Rifles, a paramilitary force. Four of the cadets who passed out are from Bhutan.

The maximum number of officers, 102, was from Uttar Pradesh, followed by Uttarakhand with 58 and Haryana, 47.

Earlier, Gen. Singh inspected a guard of honour presented by the cadets, as army helicopters showered petals from the sky. The piping ceremony followed.

It was a proud moment for Gajender Kumawat, who received the coveted Sword of Honour for being the best all-round cadet.

Hailing from Madhya Pradesh, Kumawat is the first person in his family to join the Army.

Jaidev Dangi bagged the gold medal for standing first in the order of merit in the regular course.

The IMA has so far trained 50,475 officers for the Army.
