As the Maharashtra police are yet to achieve any breakthrough in the probe into the killing of Govind Pansare, the forensic report has revealed that five bullets were fired from two revolvers at the Communist leader.
The report also said the weapons used in the August, 2013 murder of rationalist Narendra Dabholkar were different from those used in the shooting of Mr. Pansare, police sources said.
Pansare and his wife Uma were repeatedly shot at outside their home in Kolhapur on February 16 while returning from a morning stroll. Ms. Uma Pansare was grievously wounded in the head. Pansare died of bullet wounds in a Mumbai hospital.
The investigation is being done by multiple agencies, including the Kolhapur police, the Kolhapur crime branch and the Mumbai Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS). With the pressure mounting on the government to arrest the shooters, three additional teams have been constituted to assist the 20 teams working to crack the case.
The bounty on the killers has been increased by five times from Rs. 5 lakh.
