Apprehending terror strikes ahead of the 26/11 anniversary, the Centre has asked authorities in Maharashtra and Delhi to tighten security to foil any attempt by anyone to disturb peace in the two metropolis.
Based on specific inputs from a foreign intelligence agency, the Home Ministry asked police forces in Mumbai and Delhi to deploy additional forces in markets, religious and other public places to keep extra vigil in view of the second anniversary of Mumbai terror attack on November 26.
The Western agency informed New Delhi that Pakistan-based terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba may launch spectacular strikes in crowded places in Mumbai, similar to the one carried out two years ago.
Another intelligence input suggested that Kashmiri terror outfits may strike in three markets, including popular underground Palika Bazar, in Delhi.
“The red alert sounded in Delhi continues,” an official said.
The Home Ministry asked authorities in Mumbai and Delhi to deploy additional forces in all sensitive places and keep strict vigil on them.
The Centre has also asked the two police forces to install CCTV cameras and other electronics gadgets in crowded places to monitor movement of people, and metal detectors for a thorough check up of people.
