An 11-year-old daughter of daily-wage-earning parents was raped at Kandivali here on Thursday, according to police.

The accused, a vegetable vendor, was arrested from the Kurla railway station on Friday while trying to flee the city.

The victim stayed in Abdul Chawl at Kandivali along with her parents and two siblings.

On Thursday, when she was playing with her siblings, Noor alias Raja Mehboob Sheikh (40), came to her house.

“He told the girl that he had got sweets and chocolates and took her to his place. He then gagged her with a handkerchief and raped her,” a police official of Samata Nagar told The Hindu .

“She came back home, but there were no elders in the house. Her parents returned after 8 p.m. from work. After dinner, she told them about the incident. The parents immediately approached the police and registered a case against Noor at 11.30 p.m.,” the official said.

When the police went to the area, Noor was missing. Later they nabbed him at the Kurla station. He was produced in a court which remanded him in police custody.
