‘Peepli Live’ co-director Mahmood Farooqui sentenced to seven years in jail for raping US scholar

Court also imposes a fine of Rs. 50,000 on him to be paid to the victim.

A Delhi court on Thursday sentenced Mahmood Farooqui, co-director of Peepli Live , to seven years in jail for raping an American research scholar at his residence in the national capital in March 2015.

Additional sessions judge Sanjiv Jain also imposed a fine of Rs. 50,000 on him to be paid to the rape victim.

The court had on July 30, 2016 >held him guilty of the crime.

The incident occurred at Farooqui’s Sukhdev Vihar residence when the victim had gone to meet him to seek his help for her research on Baba Gorakhnath. The victim had alleged that the accused was drunk when he sexually assaulted her.
